Ask a Collections Expert!

Do you have a question about cataloging artifacts, storing artifacts, or any other collections-based quandary? Are you wondering about getting a job in collections? Well, CWAM has you covered!

Representatives from the Collections teams of the Wyoming State Museum and History Colorado will lead this virtual workshop. These experts in their field will be on hand to answer any questions you or your institution may have.

This workshop will not have a prepared presentation, but is an opportunity for CWAM members to join and ask questions to collections experts. While this workshop is scheduled until 11:30am, it will end when the questions are exhausted.

Gamification in Education Programs

Are you looking to breathe new life into your education programs; gamification may be the key!

Gamification allows museums and historic sites to bring the concepts of games into their education programs to increase student participation, content retention, and program utilization. In this session we’ll start by looking at the key concepts of gamification. We’ll then explore ways that museums and historic sites of all sizes can work it into their programs, including adding activities to current programs and reworking your entire program into game form. We’ll examine two programs at the Wyoming State Museum – our Year in the Life of a Mountain Man field trip and our Travel the Oregon Trail field trip. For each program we’ll discuss the steps to create the gamified program, difficult points along the way, what we learned, and the outcome. We will also look at resources and vendors that organizations can utilize.

On-Demand Webinar: Mount-Making for Beginners

This virtual webinar will provide an introductory overview of the process of mount-making for both collections and exhibitions. We will cover the purpose of mount-making, materials, best practices, real world examples, plus lots of tips and tricks for beginners. Participants will gain the knowledge to begin working with archival supplies and start making mounts for a variety of object types. This presentation will be geared toward EMPs, students, interns, or any collections and exhibitions staff looking to learn the basics. It may also be good for those in other departments looking for cross-departmental skills and understanding.
