Pay Range: $65,000 – $80,000 (DOE)
FLSA Classification: Full Time | Exempt

Schedule: Friday – Tuesday, 8:00am ~ 5:00pm*
*Candidates will be required to work a non-standard, flexible schedule to meet operational demands including on weekends, holidays, and during special events.

Founded in 1994 and housed on the former Lowry Air Force Base in Denver, Wings Over the Rockies is a diverse non-profit community organization dedicated to unlocking dreams of flight through exhibits, local events, and educational programming. Each year we welcome roughly 160,000 visitors representing all 50 states and dozens of countries internationally. We are Colorado’s premier Air & Space Museum having been recognized by CNN Travel as one of the 20 Best Aviation Museums in the World. Exploration of Flight (EoF) is our flight-focused educational extension. The 15-acre campus is located at Centennial Airport where we offer showcase events with a variety of aircraft, aviation immersion programs, pilot ground training, and flight experiences. EoF is also home to our new Blue Sky Gallery exhibit and interactive aviation center featuring an airworthy fleet of civilian and military aircraft.

The Director of Programs will develop and facilitate the various education programs, events, and flight operations at our Exploration of Flight facility in Centennial Airport. This position is instrumental in establishing and overseeing all EOF business operations, staff & volunteer management, facility guidelines, day-to-day visitor services, welcome desk, and the aviation immersion programs. They are also responsible for organizing special showcase events, the Young Eagles program, Teacher Flight, and our revenue flight services. The EoF Director supervises the Operations Manager, Flight Training Supervisor, and reports directly to the President & CEO. They’re a core member of the Wings leadership team working cross-departmentally to implement overall organizational strategy, culture, and direction.

Duties & Responsibilities

Business & Staff Management
– Monitor procedures and use of POS transactions, supervise cash handling procedures and bank deposits
– Utilize and maintain operational reports (sales, inventory, and traffic, etc.)
– Process retail sales, exchanges, returns, admissions, memberships, and gift certificates in a timely fashion
– Provide EOF retail store management oversight
– Help prepare annual EOF budget and track and approve budget spending within program parameters
– Supervise a manager of flight operations, a manager of Wings Scholarship and Training programs, plus 1-2 front desk employees, and numerous rotating volunteers
– Supervise the opening and closing of the front desk, retail shop, and welcome desk
– Hire, train, coach and maintain scheduling for all EOF staff members
– Manage and supervise operation of simulators and provide facility tours when needed
Program Development
– Develop and manage the Teacher Flight program and EAA Young Eagle rallies
– Create and maintain data and records for monitoring and reporting on programs
– Ensure timely entry of all program-related data into museum CRM system
– Develop and manage all “Weekend Showcase” and other special events
– Collaborate with other departments to support and develop outreach opportunities
– Actively seek, solicit, promote and manage new programs that enhance EOF operating performance
– Represent Wings at third-party outreach opportunities and work with marketing & education to determine promotional opportunities and priorities
– Develop strong relationship with other airport tenants, Airport Authority and other aviation-based organizations

Flight Operations
– Manage flight logistics such as aircraft movement and general maintenance needs. Work with Chief Pilot to ensure follow-through of all scheduled aircraft maintenance
– Ensure all insurance, pilot forms, and other required paperwork is properly maintained including all flight and aircraft maintenance logs
– Maintain all training and safety manuals and oversee scheduling of safety meetings
– Manage pilot/volunteer scheduling and oversee all day-to-day activities and general aircraft logistics

Working Conditions
Exploration of Flight is a hangar-type facility located at a busy regional airport. Wings Over the Rockies Air & Space Museum operates in an 80-year-old aircraft hangar. This position involves working outside in all seasons and weather. Environmental conditions may vary.

• Bachelor’s degree or higher
• Leadership skills with at least 5 years of management experience required
• Licensed pilot preferred but not required; subject to drug/alcohol testing if flying aircraft
• Demonstrated experience with aircraft and/or flight operations
• Strong organizational, project management, and customer service skills
• Computer proficient, analytical, and a willingness to learn new applications; Microsoft suite experience required
• Experience with Flight Schedule Pro a plus
• Demonstrated ability to successfully promote and develop strong community and business relations
• Able to deal professionally and sensitively with a diverse audience and a wide range of contacts at different levels
