Marketing Specialist

The Museum of Western Colorado is currently accepting applications for a Marketing Specialist.

Summary of Duties and Responsibilities: The Marketing Specialist has the responsibility to promote the museum’s collections, programs, activities, exhibitions, and facilities to local, national, and international media; assists with all marketing initiatives to favorably position and brand the museum and its programs, and to facilitate audience and visitor growth in support of the museum’s mission and goals. This includes coordinating a strong calendar of public programs in collaboration with other staff. This position will provide leadership and support in public event planning, media relations, social media engagement, graphic editing and design, website content, and assisting with project development and implementation. In collaboration with other staff, the position is responsible for developing the concept and copy of brochures, fliers, posters, ads and other media; collaborate with department staff on department website/social media and update content as needed; project manages marketing programs and campaigns, and maintains an organized calendar of press release distributions. The position will also assist in the development, budgeting, and monitoring of public events and outreaches.

Education and Specialized Skills Required: A Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Art Education, Arts Management, Museum Studies, or a related field is desirable. Experience in marketing, programs, and graphic design in a museum, cultural arts or nonprofit organization, educational or STEM environment is also highly desired.
• Must have excellent, demonstrated written, oral, interpersonal, and communication skills (including editing ability), and must be able to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
• Knowledge of arts and culture press is important. Nonprofit experience, particularly with a museum, is preferred as is knowledge of local and national audience trends.
• Should have an ability to work flexibly and collaboratively. Must be able to perform effectively in a fast-paced environment with a high level of creativity and self-direction.
• Excellent public speaking and networking skills, competency in graphic design and website maintenance (WordPress, basic HTML coding, InDesign, Photoshop) is necessary.

Work Schedule: The Marketing Specialist will normally work Monday through Friday but must be able to work a flexible schedule when needed, including weekends, evenings, and holidays. Schedule is subject to change based on museum needs.

$34,000 to $36,000 yearly
