Position: Conservation Technician

Pay Range: Part-time: One 8 hour day per week Monday – Saturday Between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. $20/hr

The Center for Colorado Women’s History seeks a Conservation Technician. The Center operates out of the ByersEvans House Museum, a Community Museum of History Colorado. The home was built in 1883 and its interpretive period is 1912-1924. The museum is approximately 10,000 square feet and is fully furnished with artifacts from the History Colorado collections, mostly with objects that are original to the home. The Conservation Technician is responsible for the dusting, vacuuming, monitoring and light cleaning of the historic house museum, its collections and public spaces.

Duties:
-Monitor integrated pest management
-Clean historic spaces including dusting, vacuuming, mopping, sweeping
-General artifact cleaning of multi-materials including ceramics, metal, stone, wood, glass
-Rotate objects and track movement
-Monitor and record wear and needs for further conservation
-Work with historic cultural items using standard protective equipment

Qualifications:
-Experience in collections care and handling, knowledge of best practices for care of historic houses and collections including vacuuming historic textiles.
-Previous work experience in collections care at a historic house is preferred
-Ability to adopt best practice standards for assessing, handling, and moving collections objects.
-Ability to work independently and maintain a routine.
-Ability to begin immediately

Physical Demands:
This position involves standing for long periods, crouching, climbing stairs and ladders, lifting up to 30 pounds, walking, repeating physical movements, bending or twisting, holding, handling and gripping objects.

Work Environment:
This position works indoors. Work associated with the preservation of historic properties may require duties in or near old artifacts, dust, allergens, and possible hazardous contaminants may be present.

$20/hr
