The City of Longmont’s public art program (1% for most capital projects with construction lines over $50,000) is administered by the Longmont Museum. Under the supervision of the Art in Public Places (AIPP) Administrator, the Public Art Program Assistant supports the implementation of the public art program by providing clerical and administrative assistance, advocating for the program through community engagement events, enhancing communication and social media support.
• Performs a variety of administrative and clerical support functions, including answering questions and inquiries from the public and other city staff. Complete data entry, prepare reports and documents, including agendas and minutes from Art in Public Places commission meetings.
• Provide technical assistance to the public and AIPP commissioners.
• Facilitates community communication: content updates to the program website, develops social media content, digital and print marketing to promote the program and projects, including identifying effective places to showcase information.
• Coordinates Spanish translation and accessibility standards of the program’s materials, signage, website, and other information.
• Contributes to public event execution, as assigned, including scheduling volunteers, coordinating event details, complete set-up/tear-down.
• Assists in program evaluation and set up systems to evaluate programs.
• Performs essential duties and additional tasks in a manner which enhances City Attributes.
Work is generally performed in a standard office environment with occasional site visits. Work duties will involve frequent light lifting and carrying (up to 15 pounds) with occasional moderate lifting and carrying (up to 49 pounds). Requires correctable near and far vision, ability to communicate clearly and concisely in English, ability to read and comprehend documents, solve problems, work closely with others, perform detailed work and perform multiple concurrent tasks. There will be occasional tasks that require pulling, pushing, bending, kneeling, squatting, walking and standing. Ability to work under stress from demanding deadlines, public contact, and changing priorities. May be required to work long or non-traditional hours to fulfill organizational needs, projects, or special circumstances. Exposure to frequent interruptions and background noises.
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to three years in arts administration, public and/or nonprofit administration, urban planning, community development, social science, fine arts, art history, architecture, or a related field and two or more years’ professional experience in community relations, public administration, or non-profit community services. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university preferred. Experience working with boards and commissions and/or government organization desired. Skills in graphic design desired. Adobe Creative Suite and social media platform experience preferred. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office required. Experience in art handling, artwork installation, packing and moving is desired, but not required.
Special Qualifications: Valid Colorado driver’s license required.
