Position: Museum Assistant Internship

Pay Range: $15/hour

This internship will provide the student with the opportunity to explore all aspects of a career in public history in a small, but vibrant and active organization. The student will be expected to work in collections, exhibit development, and interpretation (as a museum guide). Working in such a small environment demands the ability to oversee several projects at the same time. Time and project management are important skills and the student will have the opportunity to improve these skills while working with the historical society.

The intern will be required to work on the following projects during their semester at the museum (note this is not an exhaustive list):

1. Collections processing/management/preservation – understand the importance of having a good collections management policy and strong guiding mission
2. Interpretation Guide – training will be given in providing educational tours. Education and interpretation will be focused in three locations: the museum complex, (encompassing two main museum buildings, as well as a pioneer cabin, a one-room schoolhouse, and an observatory, all located in the courtyard), a historic home, and Museum in the Park days.
3. Social Media – understand role in communication for a small organization. This will include updating and maintaining a variety of forms of media.
