FLSA: Non­exempt position DESCRIPTION / POSITION OVERVIEW: This is a year round hourly (at­will) position with benefits limited to those required by applicable state and federal laws, which include Worker’s Compensation, Medicare, Unemployment Insurance, and PERA (Public Employees’ Retirement Association). Normal work days will be Tuesday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Hours worked will not exceed 24 per week. Total hours worked will not exceed 1,500 annually. Museum Technician (71100) The CSPM (Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum), which is accredited by the American Alliance of Museums, is seeking an experienced museum professional to perform collection management and exhibit preparation. In this position, you will work in a fast­paced, collaborative environment with dedicated staff and volunteers to ensure the public has meaningful access to museum collections through exhibits, programs, and research opportunities. Essential Functions ­ the basic job duties an employee must be able to perform: Assist the Museum Registrar and Archivist in collections inventory, data entry, and accessioning Assist with preservation activities of the CSPM object and outdoor sculpture collection Under the direction of the Registrar, lead volunteers in the CSPM outdoor sculpture maintenance program biannually Assist with cleaning and preventative care duties, including monitoring environmental conditions of the museum collection areas and exhibits; implement pest management practices Assist in preparation and movement of objects for exhibit Assist in mount making and exhibit installation Support various museum programs and projects We are looking for candidates who demonstrate: Knowledge of: Relational databases Principles and procedures of a museum collections best practices Basic carpentry skills Modern office equipment, including computers and supporting software
Ability to: Work independently and as part of a team Multi­task and work effectively under pressure and deadlines Safely use basic carpentry tools Communicate clearly and concisely, verbally and in writing Establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships

RELEVANT BACKGROUND AND FORMAL EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in art, history, anthropology, museum studies, or a related field. Experience working in a museum, archive, library, or an anthropology lab. Experience using power tools.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Physical Demands: This position requires the ability to stand, walk, sit, climb stairs and ladders, and lift up to 75 pounds occasionally. Environmental Conditions: Work is performed primarily in a museum setting with some work outdoors and possible exposure to dust, mold, and fumes.
